Car bomb exploded in the Shiite city of Qatif, east of Saudi Arabia

Jeddah: Car bomb exploded in the Shiite city of Qatif, east of Saudi Arabia on Thursday evening. According to reports, the huge explosion was heard at the time when Muslims were about to break their fast for the holy month of Ramzan. There are no reports of any casualties but the security forces have been kept on high alert following the bombing.
Some reports suggest that the car bomb exploded near Qatif’s street market where locals had gathered to buy fruits to break their fast.
The authorities have not yet given any statement but casualties are feared in the incident. The bombing took place three days after two Saudi security officials were injured by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
The incident of Monday took place in Qatif governorate, which happened during a police patrol in the Al-Rif neighbourhod in Al Awamiya, a Ministry Spokesperson was quoted by a local news agency.
The injured officers were admitted to a local hospital and the cops called for a high level investigation. In May, the interior ministry announced that a special forces soldier was killed and five others were wounded in an RPG rocket attack fired by terorists in Al-Masoura district in Qatif.
Some reports suggest that the suspected terrorists used rockets, explosive devices and land mines to obstruct work at a development project in Al-Masoura neighbourhood, attacking project workers and security personnel.
Todays bombing reminds of the suicide attack that took place in Qatif province on July 4 last year. In a coordinated attack that targeted the United States diplomats in Jeddah and Shiite Muslim worshippers in Qatif, jolted the Kingdom on the last day of Ramzan.
