Mumbai: A 23-year-old civil engineering student was arrested from Mumbra for portraying himself as NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad on Facebook. As reported, the accused Tanveer Abdul Majid Chougule used to send messages to various women.
The police told that as he started adding unknown people, his account was blocked by Facebook. Hence, he created a fake profile by Awhad’s name to increase the friend list. The report mentions that Tanveer used to ask these women to meet for dinner after chatting with them for several hours.
When a few women showed up at Jitendra Awhad’s office after chatting with the accused, the MLA realised that someone was chatting with them using his name through a fake account. He filed a complaint at Thane police station and the cybercrime branch traced the boy’s IP address and arrested him.
The accused told police that he created this fake account as he got a good response from women by impersonating as Awhad and was enjoying it.
