Sirsa (Haryana): Ahead of the verdict in a rape case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the victim said that she has fought for long and has full faith in the judiciary. She hopes that her long wait for justice will finally come to an end on Friday after the CBI court’s judgment in Panchkula.
“Hamney to suna hai, ye India hai, yahan aasani se nyay nahi milta hai. aur woh bhi jab ladai ek powerful ke khilaf ho. Paise wala kuch bhi kar sakta hai yahan. (We have heard getting justice in India is not easy, and that when you are fighting against a powerful person. A person who has money can do anything here),” said the victim, a former sadhvi at the Dera Sacha Sauda ashram.
“But I have trust in this system till now. Umeed ki kiran hai (There is a ray of hope). We have fought so long for justice, only because the guilty should be punished 100 percent,” she told. “Fortunately, this case was handled by honest officers from CBI. They have tried their best to ensure justice to us. That’s why we have hope,” said the complainant.
In 2008, a CBI court ordered framing of rape charges against the Dera chief. “My life has changed after I gave the statement. I can’t move freely. There is danger to my life. I am also apprehensive about lives of my family members,” she told.
“Nothing can happen in the dera without permission of the ‘Baba’ because of his terror. I have heard that if somebody speaks against the Guru, he should be lynched. The followers take his preachings as message of God. The dera chief gives money to followers if they influence their relatives and others to join the dera”.
She also said that the followers have more faith in their ‘baba’ than their children. “If anybody complains against the dera chief, their parents would tell them, ‘you are wrong’,” she said. She also alleged that if anyone dares to speak against Gurmeet Ram Rahim, he or she is subjected to atrocities.
The rape case against Gurmeet Ram Rahim dates back to the year 2002. The Haryana and Punjab High Courts had referred to a special CBI court after a letter, written by a sadhvi of Dera Sacha Sauda, began circulating. The letter was written to then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Chief Justice of High Court. Pleading for an enquiry, the contents of the letter accused the Dera chief of raping her and other sadhvis.
Earlier in the day, Dera followers cried and tried to block Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s convoy while he was on his way to Panchkula for the verdict. Dera followers had earlier requested Ram Rahim to not appear in the CBI court.
